Understanding the Enhanced Document Storage Solution
As a part of the 2017.1.12 release of NetForum Enterprise, a new option for storing files has been introduced that, when configured, provides cloud storage to save uploaded documents and images. This Enhanced Document Storage solution modernizes document and file storage in NetForum Enterprise.
Previously, all files in NetForum Enterprise were stored on the local IIS web server using miscellaneous file IO libraries and local hard disk drives. To provide a more centralized solution, a cloud storage solution with enhanced security has been added. Users can continue to use the local storage option, or they can upgrade to the third-party Enhanced Document Storage (cloud) option.
The primary benefits of the Enhanced Document Storage solution are listed below:
- More storage space available
- Additional security
- The ability to add role-based custom security. Role-based security means you can create any security you like for specific objects. All documents are now tied to specific NetForum Enterprise objects, so security can be applied simply by updating a database table and creating new roles.
When the Enhanced Document Storage solution has been configured for a customer per the Configuring and Setting up Document Storage solution instructions, the customer’s existing documents will be migrated to the upgraded document storage provider during an upgrade process. The document migration will change the location of files in NetForum Enterprise from the local storage to a storage provider chosen at deployment time (such as Amazon S3).
