One-Click Unsubscribe Setup

This applies to NetForum application version Winter 2025 Release (35) and later.

This feature allows customers to easily unsubscribe from mailing lists by providing a convenient link directly in the Email interface. Recipients of your emails can effortlessly remove themselves from your mailing list by clicking a unique link included in your Email.

Important: Activating this functionality requires specific alterations to the config file and the configuration of Azure Key Vault for the NetForum application. Please get in touch with your NetForum Support Representative.

System Options

The following system options supporting this feature and must be setup with required values.

Using One-Click Unsubscribe

  • Once the One-Click Unsubscribe functionality is configured for your application, the Email clients supporting the One-Click Unsubscribe will display an Unsubscribe button in the header.               Mail Box with Unsubscribe button.png
  • Important: After configuring the One-Click Unsubscribe functionality, the Mail Provider might require few days to verify the sender's credibility and reputation, which means that the Unsubscribe link may not appear immediately in the emails sent to customers.

  • Clicking the Unsubscribe button in the mail header will display the confirmation pop-up as shown below                                                                                                                .
  • On clicking the Unsubscribe button on the Unsubscribe pop-up, a pop-up message will appear stating, 'Unsubscribed from this mailing list’.                                                                           
  • On clicking again, the Unsubscribe button in the mail header (if visible), this will show the consent modal.
  • The consent modal will have a "Go to Website" button and clicking it will trigger a GET request to the URL.

  • In this request, the system will redirect the user to the Unsubscribe page (added to the baseline as part of this implementation).NetForum Unsubscribe landing page.png
  • If your association wants customers to be sent to a different page, then you can mention the desired URL in the UnsubscribeLandingPageUrl system option.
  • This system option stores the URL for the landing page for the Unsubscribe request, allowing the association to redirect customers to a custom page if desired. For example: https://website1.com/anypage.aspx?webcode=CustomPage
  • You can enter your custom URL in the above format, and the system will append the required data to the URL so that you can use the same for performing Unsubscription.
  • The required parameters for creating custom page are:
    • Customer key(cst_key)
    • Mailing List Type Key(mtp_key)
    • Call to action detail Key(acd_key)
  • If the system option is empty, then the system will redirect customer to the baseline Unsubscribe landing page.          NetForum Unsubscribe landing page.png

Why is the Unsubscribe button not visible?

The One-Click Unsubscribe option might not be visible, despite the correct headers being included in the emails. The Email Provider clients use complex algorithms to determine when to display One-Click Unsubscribe links. These algorithms take into account various elements, such as user interaction, the reputation of the sender, and the type of email, to decide if the link should be shown.

How to Check for a One-Click Unsubscribe link In Your Email?

Customers can test One-Click Unsubscribe functionality by following these steps:

  1. Send an Email to a test address.
  2. Open the test Email in an Email client to view the Email in your Inbox.
  3. Click the ‘three dots’ icon (More button (Gmail or Yahoo)), or View (Outlook). to view the Email options.
  4. Click the Show original (Gmail), View raw message (Yahoo), or Message Details (Outlook).
  5. Within the original message text, search for ‘list-unsubscribe’ (using ‘CTRL/Command +F’) to view the header.

The inclusion of the list-unsubscribe header signifies that the Email client has the required information to offer the One-Click Unsubscribe feature.

You can verify an individual whether they have opted out from a particular mailing type by navigating to the Individual profile > Correspondence tab > E-mail optout child form.
