Gift FAQ

Gift FAQ

Stock Gift

Q: Why don't I see fields to enter Stock information if entering a Fundraising gift from a stock?

A: If the stock related fields do not appear even after selecting 'stock' as a gift type, check the DonationTypeStockGuid system option to ensure that it matches the GUID for the stock gift type.

Proforma Gift

Q. I used to be able to add proforma gifts, but in 2011.01 that doesn't seem to be possible any longer. Why?

A. With 2011.01, the option to add a proforma gift is now handled with a Verbal Pledge, which is essentially the same thing as a proforma gift. A verbal pledge will create a proforma invoice. You can change it to a signed pledge later on manually or by applying a payment; this will turn the proforma invoice into a receivable.

Tax Deductible Amount

Q. How does NetForum use the tax deductible amount field on the gift? Does this data affect financials?

A. The tax deductible field on the gift does not affect accounting transaction. It is purely an informational field. We do not recommend that you report on this field as a way to sum up donations, but instead use the related accounting data. The tax deducible field can be used in acknowledgement letters, and the baseline Fundraising Tax Letter Report uses the field as well.

Note that when you add a gift, the tax deductible amount is defaulted based on the amount entered in the gift amount. On gift entry pages, the amount can be overridden by the user. If a premium is added to the gift, then the tax deductible amount will get automatically lowered according to the value of the premium.

Gift Type in Centralized Order Entry

Q. When I add a pledge in Centralized Order Entry, the Gift Type defaults to that of the DefaultGiftTypeGUID, but when it saves, the gift type is switched to that defined by DonationTypePledgePaymentGuid. Why does this happen?

A. When a pledge payment is made, the resulting Gift's gift type is set by the one defined in the DonationTypePledgePaymentGuid system option. What this means in practice is that if you are creating a pledge in COE, then it does not matter which gift type you select because NetForum will set it automatically.
